Has anybody seen an grey import with a steel Chassis number plate welded on? I've only ever seen them riveted on but a RTA PDF said they could be welded, I've just never seen it done before, it would make it a lot harder for them to drill the rivets and check the original jap chassis number! Most the ones I have seen are plastic, I have seen one stainless steel one but it was also riveted but imagine if it was welded right around the perimeter, would make it difficult to check the original identy of the vehicle. Surely for this reason they wouldn't allow it! I don't know why they even allow the original numbers to be covered over, it's not like any one can accidently revert to using the jap number because it doesn't have enough characters.
