strengthening pressure plate

after quoteing a aftermarket 2tg clutch at $500, i decided its not worth buying one, i put up a wanted ad on toymods but nobody had any aftermarket T series clutches.
my clutch plate is fine but my pressure plate is real soft, ive heard of places that strenghten them by welding in new springs/splines...is this expensive? effiective? and where could i get it done?
