Targa Tasmania

Do you guys all want to meet up and goto targa tas ? to have a look at the cars when they parked ?? or do any of u want to go watch the cars at a location... i usually take hte domain near either the start of the course... the big S bend or that large corner before the big straight... i like hte S bend the best.. i remeber seeing that Dark Grey JZA80 in it last year god it was slow... makes toyota sports cars look bad.. mind u the Lexus IS200 looked cool.. the smaller nipper, nimble cars were doing the best on that section of the stage!!

yeah guys i reckon that would be a awesome idea, i am part of L.C Motorsport (course at launceston college) and we are competeing in targa in an elfin clubman that we built last year its got a sivler top twenty in it, its red and goes sweet as. If any of you guys are about stop buy and say hi, theres a mob of about 10 students, look for the gut with the black quick silver hat, most likely that will be me.

Yeah, the thing isn't bad, you guys did well putting it together.
You get to sit in on one stage each don't you? I'm good mates with Leigh and Nathan, they are involved with it all.
It will be good to see how it runs.

I'd say the casino.
I worked there for a little bit and when the cars are parked there are drivers everywhere.
Everybody is nice to talk to and seemed happy to have somebody ask a question about their car.
The take the 2nd floor of the car park i think.
it's a great chance to get up close to the cars instead of watching them whizz by.

well u can miss out on Targa.. and go and do girly stuff like have your nails done !!! while we are all going to look at cars!
Did anyone see the JZA80 in targa last year?? i always goto the domain where the big S bend is going down hill... near where asher crashed.. anyway the JZA80 was going quite slow around that section.. but they are a heavy car and most of the larger cars where going slow through there... it was great to see the little club mans hammer through there!!! can't wait for it this year! it would be cool to see an AE86 in it

You all but got it right Mookie, it was at the Silverdome in Launceston. It was a solid weekend and I know, like NickZ I'll be working for most of the time Targa is on so I went for a glance at the expo. The Gallardo's were roped up but I used my charm to woo the coordinator lady into letting me have my photo with it (yea right) and they even opened the door and let me stick my head in and have a good look!

Yeah the white one without a lot of decals. It sounds more like a rotary compared to the genuine Celica Grp A Rallye's that look identical to it.
Its actually an ex-Bates rally car.

Something like:
$5,750 to enter Targa - This incorporates the plates and stickers, and a choice of merchandise for the event, but then you have to worry about if your car qualifies as a sports performance vehicle, and it needs to be in good condition. You also have to do all the work like fitment of roll bars, safety equipment and the like, plus you would want to have a team of mechanics lined up for if something fucks up.
Wouldn't be cheap so you'd need to drum up some sponsors and get their logo's stamped on your car, see if you can cut some losses.
I'd love to enter a Sprinter Trueno AE86 or a 1JZ '91 Supra!

I got up to see the south riana stage on saturday arvo, i was up a tree above the first hair-pin with a view of 4 fast corners approaching it and 30secs of up hill after it. I could see up to three cars at a time. it was awesome to see and hear the cars powering it up the hill especially, and a few cars outbraked themselves into the hairpin. A couple overshot and had to back up but noone hit the bank there, lucky for them.
I am really interested in building an AE86 Levin for Targa. It may have to be a 2 year + long term plan, it takes a lot of time and money to find, build and get reliability out of a car. I have been through the Targa website with a fine tooth comb and it seems to me that I will have to enter in the modern competition in the early modern category and probably in the modified specification class. The site doesn't list the AE86 in the "desirable or acceptable vehicle register". If I can prove that an AE86 was manufactured in Japan before jan 82, I may be able to squeeze into the classic competition. I don't like my chances. Does anyone have a spare shell lying around???
