Heya guys, just found out about your site, the forums look great!

I purchased a 1986 Celica SX with a 3S-GE motor in it at the start of the year. It had done 200,000k's on it and was only one owner. It only has a few issues with it, but I just did a major one.

I somewhat ceased up the pistons Sad I had placed new oil through the engine around 2 months ago and was a fool not to check it. It wasn't a smokey car and ran well.

Just about a week ago a new noise came to my car, a sort of rattling, like a chain noise, when the engine was put under strain.

I was travelling along the freeway and it sounded like that chain noise came off, and the engine turned off. I called up RACV on the freeway and they tried to rotate the pistons. They moved around freely about 3/4 of the way and then jammed up. He could wind it back the other way too, but they would jam up agian. He checked the oil and I was so embarassed, there was no oil in the engine.

Basically now I was looking at getting a reconditioned engine. (maybe overdoing it). I have just started my research and I rang up a place who said that they would recondition my 3S-GE 1st generation motor for $2600! argh! they would take it away, do the work and bring it back to me.

My friend talked about the possibility of putting a reconditioned 3rd generation 3S-GE motor in, because you could buy the engine for around $300-400 from the wreckers. reconditioning it and that should cost upward towards $1350, then trying to do an engine exchange.

I would like to know of any opinions into these actions, if anyone konws of any porblems I may have in doing it, things I have to check for etc.

Your help will be greatly appreciated!
