Worst luck ever.

i just wanted to to share with you guys my worst luck experience with an engine conversion.
ok, late last year decided to do an engine conversion to my 4afe csi ltd corolla. thought dropping in a 4agze would be sweet, simply buy a half cut and drop it straight in. But no, it never goes as planned. 1st work shop i took it to got charged around 1300 to put the engine in, including new a reconditioned steering rack due to the split boots. tried to charge be 2 g's but then took it back after i spit the dummy at him.
This was all done minus the wiring since they new nothing about it.
2nd work shop was to complete my wiring and anyother extras it needed to make it run. Was advise to go aftermarket ecu, so i went for an ems since that was their specialty. Ok, at this point you would think it would be over after the wiring. But nope, i was in trouble since the 1sst workshop at stripped the wiring completely from dash to lighting etcc.... Dodgy 2nd workshop advise me that cut n shut was the best way to go about it. So naturally i wasnt going to argue since i was in no position. went with the suggestion and wham was hit with a bill for around 3200 approx. This included ems ecu, wired and tuned.
turns out this guy was shit at tuning. i decided no use crying over spilt milk took it to JEM who was more than helpful and tuned my car and made it run like new. NExt, waterpump was on the way out, this might sound stupid but i was told from the 1st workshop not to change my waterpump after inspection suggested the gasket was still new and didnt look like it needed changing.
so waterpump change was in way, 400 bucks for waterpump change and 600 dollars for some other stuff like broken rear engine mount and the cost of the remaining wiring that was needed to be done. forgot to mention my dodgy wiring caused 3,4 blown ignitors.
ok all this was done, got defected by the cops. costed me 650 to change my suspension to meet safety requirements. new front engine mount and rego/greenslip costed me something like 800.
just when i thought everything was over. i was told by Rigoli that this annoying crackling sound when i free revv was the sound of my main bearings on the way out and could get worst even leading to my motor blowin up.
so i need to get that fixed, which i think it means motor rebuild.
edit. the whole thing has costed my between 8500 - 10,000 dollars, i just dont remember what it was used on.
That my friends is my expensive but sad story.
p.s this was all in the matter of 3 - 4 months.

You're damn right Rob... I thought that once I rebuilt the 7M I'd have ages of trouble free motoring... It's just not reality.

spend money, and youll get your money put to a good use... although theres always a chance of one of the many things comprising an engine shitting themselves..
if everything is PROPERLY checked, PROPERLY prepared and PROPERLY assembled, this offers a REDUCED chance of shit happening, although there is always a chance..
Talk about a waste of money :S
feel sorry for ya mate....

Your first mistake was taking your car to a workshop that couldnt do a drive in drive out job. And then it looks like everything just snowballed.

I feel sorry for you mate but your not the only one, as skip said "Yep modifying cars sure aint cheap!". A mate blew up the rb26tt(supposably unbreakable ) out of a 1997 series 2 skyline, 3 dodgy workshops and $30,000 later he got his car back, and it was quick making 340kw@wheels but for 30k it should have made a lot more, he was sick of it, sold it and bought a new Peougot Gti.
Didnt FLYNSX have a similar story to you with a heap of dodgy shops and his 4agze also.

i called my last girlfriend once, cost me what? 18 cents? we went out for a year and a half.
this is the only expense i had on her behalf..
the real statement is "if its got wheels or tits, its going to give you trouble"
trouble was something she was REALLY good at.

i want to know why on earth you paid $400 to have an $90 waterpump changed? its probably like 4 bolts and a gasket which comes in the kit. ditto goes for your $600 to change a $120 engine mount, we've done those on fwd 4ages on the driveway with ramps, the usual charge is a shout of pizza and a 6 pack of bourbons
under what circumstances were you defected? because of some work done by one of these workshops? or because you couldn't even fit a coke can under your car?

you cant really do nothing much with the red sticker defect.
i was defected on the grounds the change in motor which was not stock and afew other little things. but since it was a "major inspection required" everything is checked for safety.
my suspension was gone from about a year of superlows on stock struts.
600 bucks was for a few things not just the enginemount, you dont seem to add in the labour, notice i did not do these things myself. i'd like to see you try go into a workshop and tell them to fix you something for a pizza and a case of beer.
it cost 400 dollars for the pump cus of the labour was like a few hours. 4agze motors arent as easy to replace as 4afe's or 4ages due to the tight space. i was quoted around 490 i believe at SAS so i dont think it was too expensive.
mate i mean, once you go through what i've been through, you just pay it. you just get so sick of it you want it to all end but when it doesnt end you dont think its worth it anymore.
im thinking after a rebuild it should be fine, i mean being a 4agze known for being quite a solid block you would think less dramas.
i guess you learn from your mistakes.
thanks fellas.

i do all my own work, no matter how hard. i don't have the money to pay people to fix things. if you were me, you'd be pulling the engine out yourself and fixing or rebuilding it yourself too, just like i have done in the past. that way i get to keep the pizza and alcohol
you can't really whinge about illegally lowering your car and getting done for it, or driving around with the wrong engine number in. do it a bit smarter next time, it's amazing the trouble you don't have when you don't break the law
