It may be a stupid question, but I was just wondering how hot does the outside of a turbo heat bag get?
The reason I ask is that with my conversion, I have ended up with about an inch between the exhaust side of the turbo and the firewall. Great for weight distribution, crap for heat issues. http://home.swiftdsl.com.au/~mk15/index.php?image= IMGP1429_1024.jpg
I cannot fit the factory heatshield on as it wraps around the front of the turbo and hangs out a little. But what I was thinking was cutting off where it wraps (so it effectively just covers the manifold and installing the turbo bag I have over the turbo. The problem with this is that it's quite bulky and it would be touching the stainless heat shield.
Will the engineer freak out about this because I don't have my required centimetre and a half?
And will the outside of the turbo bag be too hot and transfer too much heat directly to the heatshield?
