Rack Boots Sun, 15 May 2005 15:26 Go to next message
Hi all,

I have an AE86 Sprinter, and was about to get my wheels aligned, when the guy about to do the alignmnet told me that both my rack boots are broked. He then told me that I shouldn't bother with the alignment till they're fixed Sad

So I did a little search along forums and found that AE70 and AE71 have the same manual steering racks. So I was wondering if this is true and are the rack boots the same as for an AE86?

I only ask as a backup if places don't have boots for an AE86 and if could ask for AE70/1 boots instead.

Any help would be appreciated ^_^

Go to Repco, ask for two universal Rack boots. Mark where the lock nuts and outer ball joints are positioned, and count the number of turns to remove both sides - they should be equal. Remove the rack boots, clean out any crap, regrease, cut the new rack boots to suit, and install. Rethread the outer ball joints to where they were originally, and then send it in for a wheel alignment. The job will cost you $19.20 for 2 rack boots and time.

i concur with CLG, helped a mate with this job a while ago (still haven't fixed my broken boots)

you can get boots from repco that don't need to be trimmed, but it is always a gamble getting the right parts.

The universal ones will do the job, but I haven't found any yet that are a perfect fit for the Corolla rack - if you're the fussy kind Razz

i have a listing here for the rack boots on the ae86, but i would need to cross the part #'s over to kelpro at work.
thinking cross over in my head could be SRB-049(rhs) and SRB-050(lhs), two different suppliers so an not 100% on those part numbers.
