It is the japanese way of stating power, much like we use KW or HP.

its actually a german measurement.. 'pefidershtarke' or something
- from wikipedia..
PS
This unit (German: Pferdestärke = horse strength) is still commonly used in Germany, central Europe, and Japan, although not a lawful unit any more. Informally, it remains in use, and the advertisements of firms of other countries that make products that compete against these (e.g., motorcycles) use it too. It was adopted throughout continental Europe with designations equivalent to the English "horse power", but mathematically different from the British unit. It is defined by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB)[2] (http://www.ptb.de/) in Braunschweig as exactly:
1 PS = 75 kp·m/s = 735.49875 W

what kind of Hp would you be converting to?
My Mac's calculator says 1Kw is 1.823252588804535 Hp but i have no idea what kind if Hp it's referring to.

well... with these numbers you could argue that:
1 PS = 1.359621617303904 Kw
which is the output of PS/0.73549875 = Kw

Cool thanks for the quick response wish manufactures of hp rated machines around the world used common meaning it took me long enough to be able to convert kw to hp without using a calculator.

It's used in Japan, but doesn't necessarily mean that its from there.
