I know this was talked about in other threads but I will post up here what I found out today for the sake of future search's.

Corolla charcoal cannisters are NOT all that small. I checked a heap at Pick A Part and they are pretty big.

A small one can be found on a Diahatsu Charade late 70's early 80's model. It is a coke can wide by half a coke can tall roughly, two tubes in the top (line to fuel tank, line to top of throttle body or what have you) and a drain tube at the bottom.

Now the cunning stuff. The Charade cannister's mounting bracket is pre-formed steel welded to the firewall of the car, so useless to us.

Walk over at just about any old 2WD Hilux and low down on the front passenger side of the engine bay, is a larger charcoal cannister mounted on a steel bracket, which in turn is fixed onto the inside of the guard with 2 bolts. Discard that charcoal cannister, unbolt the bracket and keep that, its a perfect fit for your Charade unit.

That Hilux bracket can be bent and drilled to fit just about anywhere you have two bolts in your engine bay.

This Charade cannister is much smaller, both in width and height, than the usual Toyota stuff.

Cheers,
Mitch.

Always happy to help a fellow toymodder. Mine is fitted now, heaps more room than before, and its far easier to slip out and back in if I need access to the other engine bits around the thing, than the original unit.
Cheers mate.
Mitch.

i just chucked mine altogether, missing carbon canister is the last thing that will be noticed in my engine bay. Wink there are quite a few small ones getting around tho if you want to keep it legal, i was gonna mount it in my inner guard but got lazy.

The charade canister also includes a one-way valve, handy when you have turbo.
