1jz vs 7m

currently i own a gz20 soarer and i want to make it faster. i know the 1jz has more power standard but the turbos are a major disadvantage for making more power. I also know that the standard head gasket was not torqued down enough on the 7m and this is a major disadvantage for the standard engine. However the single turbo can be hiflowed and have more power than the twin ct12a's are capable of safely. My long term goal is an 11 second quarter mile. Which engine would you choose for the conversion?
thanks in advance

This shoulda really be put in the Tech section, but anyways, I'm with Nark, if this thread continues, there will be some b!tch slappin happenin!
I like both engines. I probably would have rathered a 1j, but there was no such beast in the old school soarers.
7M, the head gasket aint that much of a worry. If your willing to do a little work, buy a MHG and ARP studs, then you are basically worry free.
1J, Very nice engine, still able to get very good power gains without having to go over board and do single turbo conversion etc.
I suppose it doesn't matter which one you go for, I think you are going to have to do some decent work to get 11sec passes out of them. I doubt (I could be very wrong) you could get 11 sec out of the standard turbos.
Also, one more thing about the 7m's, they make most of their torque a 1000rpm. I believe it is something like 300nm's @ 1000rpm. I read that some where on the net. I think it was a Supra forum or somewhere.

rvrolla is right. I would think you would need a turbo upgrade on both engines to run 11s. i am going for the 1jz engine when i do my conversion, here are my reasons.
1. 1jz is a newer engine and there are also more parts available.
2. Most auto wreckers want a similar price for both engines and front cuts. and i believe the 1jz will be better.
3. I have seen many high power outputs with stock internals. (600ps)
although not many people give the 7mgte a chance. (cept the yanks) im sure it is a highly capable engine, after all look at the quality of build of the rest of the cars the engine sits in.
just my opinion. dont take it too seriously though cause i still think my 7mge is fast!
