Can you revmatch on downshift? Does this help the gears engage?

hey i tryed rev matchin, didnt do much, the only progress i made is that i can now down shift from 4 - 3rd with a double clutch, but still cant pull 2nd.

someone suggested that maybe my clutch setup is just slowly workin itself into place, as the setup has only done no more that 2km.

idea's? i mean that sounded like a reasonable idea considering that i couldnt down shift at all earlier today.

some feed back guys.

also, lol i had a "toyota specialist" mobile mechanic come out to have a look, all he could come up with is "fucks me" he didnt even charge me lol

what gearbox are you using more importantly?
if the clutch is only 2kms old that means you had the box out 2kms ago! don't say you put the stocka box back in!

those gearboxes have problems with the synchros on a n/a motor.

its the stock s53 box but it is in pristeen condition, when i drained the oil it was crystal clear, it up shifts beautifully,
CLG suggested that it may be a stretched selector cable, anyone know how to confirm this?

also when tryin to down shift it doesnt grind it just hits on the gate, cant go past it.

Have you made sure that all the bolts are done up tight ?
Could even be something loose on the inside - flywheel, pressure plate. But with you being able to upgear i couldn't see that being something. But still......

I kind of think CLG is most likely on the money with a stretched cable, more then likely it'd be the cable for the up/down movement.

Just a left of field odd ball idea but you sure you got the cables around the right way ? But like i said "odd ball"

Its your detents and interlocks then mate. The detents hold are basically runners with spring loaded ball bearings which lock into a little groove ont he shaft and hold it in gear. These get worn and as you can see it pops out.If one is stuck it can also stop it from changing altoghether.

Along with these there are interlocks which are there so that you may only select one gear at a time.THese two can be worn and will result in major gear clashing, crunching and if you do manage to get it into gear the car will stall and lock up the box and cause uber skiddies on bolthj the road and in your pants.

Id be taking the box out and getting it looked over by an expert.

I pulled apart a pulsar box the other day which probably had the same problems with its mechansims and found that a spring had just lost its temper and the detent balls were just not moving around enough.

Hope this helps mate and good luck
