Dirty Ibis Drift return to Twilight 10/06/05
|
Sun, 29 May 2005 15:46
|
|
I am pleased to announce that most of our cars will be returning for Drift on June 10 twilight- the final qualifying leg of the driftland mini series. Here are the hachis re-united once again:
Jezza: freshly installed motor/suspension
Will: A rolling parts whore, hasn't gone 1 week without snapping/breaking/wearing out something, he's back with a whole lot of goodies!
Andrew: has he ever missed one event?!
and me, Dez: haven't kissed the bitchamen since February, going out with completely different car/setup
Wish us luck!
So who else is entering? We need more Toyotas out there, and more support pit crew!

well i've been advised to 'run it in' without going too harshly. It'd be too rushy and the eraliest i could get it in there is the day before
so i thought, better be safe than sorry, than to wreck a $1300 LSD

To break in the LSD plates, find an empty parking lot and proceed to do figure 8's. You should not go beyond 20km/h (1st gear) on straights, and do not depress the clutch fully (i.e. slip the clutch sliughtly) when you make the turns. The break in process has to be done continuously for 30 minutes to ensure that all the plates break in properly.
If this initial break in is not performed and too much torque is applied to the L.S.D. at once, the plates will form strange angles. Then the chattering noise will continue and may even cause damage to the L.S.D.

slip the clutch slightly on turns garth? i'm assuming that means half in half out every time i turn, kinda like dropping the clutch in first gear while moving?

yeah, half depressed clutch whist turning then off it for straights
Doing this is giving a less 'jarring' engagement motion to the clutch plates in the lsd ensuring a nice even surface when they do meet and friction is transferred.

yeah, i have only seen your car circulating once that was at one of the IDA days, very nice sprintah. Anyways yeah haven't been to friday nights since friday the 13 cos it was kinda gay then no-one turned up. If i feel like braving the cold i'll be there. Be warned more than likely i'll have a HRT jumper on as that is the warmest thing i have in my cupboard.

easy way to sort this out
find a wet grass paddock and give her hell
not sore on the diff at all
i use to have to do this when i bought 86s in england as the diffs were actually to tight as they were never used

Just do it des.
Joel installed his TRD 2 way the night before the drift prac. Took it for 30mins of figure 8s, then did 400kays or so in it, changed to oil and went drifting.
his lsd is sweet, no problems at all

Just got my diff assy. with 2-way back, came with this peice of advice. It is a bit excessive, but better safe than sorry, if you got the time and patience.
-----------
The following procedure should be followed for 1000kms
1) CORRECT OIL MUST BE USED
2) No hard or rapid acceleration
3) Speed not to exceed 80 kph
4) avoid driving at one sustained speed. This allows the bearings and seals to settle in and the gears to develop a good work hardened surface.

ive got a better run in procedure
it involves 30mins of figure 8s, 400kays of normal varied driving, then u change the oil and BUST IT OUT HARDCORE
screw not exceeding 80kms, and doing 1000km run in, too much hassle
to prove what i just said, take simon ae86's TRD 2 way. He did this run in procedure, and then took the car out to the track. As you all well know, simon drives his car HARD, changes the oil often, but never has any dramas, diff still works like new.

cannonball just came over and told me what happened out there des! Sorry to hear man, good luck getting it back up and running again. Its a shame to hear about all the time off the road its had and time and effort put into it for your return and that happens. Thats the price of drift i guess.

They certainly did! i have some pics on my camera & will post them up on tuesday so long as Des approves...
I havn't pulled the guard out yet Des but if you end up coming round tonite it will be sitting on the front porch so you can check it out... i can't remember the condition but it's better then the one currently on the car!

Yeah, it was a good night for the Hachis, except for des Every other lap he seemed to have a spun out car infront, so all he could do was drive around, then he paid the price of drift in the worst possible way. It was lucky you didnt bust the passenger window, and hopefully most of the damage to the door will "buff right out ", unlike the guard.

hey fellas, what a nite! as all have prob heard about dez' inciDENT in his car, (sorry dez i know it was a bit of a cheap shot)
i was right behind you when it happened, you looked like you had it all setup for a perfect tank slap all teh way down the straight but the last one kicked back a little too much.
but dont worry, what doesnt kill you makes you stronger!
TA 022; i dont know if it looked that good om my part, i felt i was in a bit of a rut. the car didn't feel right, i could not get one entry right into driftland corner, last forntnight i pulled entries like the sponsered guys, but last night saw NO success. i was constantly correcting my own mistakes. i hope it was the shit tyres i was using.
i hope my mates pics turned out ok, if they did ill be posting up the best of them cause there are about 70 all up.
and i was glad to see more toyotas out there, showing the crowds that our humble toys can still do it!
