speed limiter and the powerchip Sun, 05 January 2003 23:56 Go to previous message
Hi,

I have a couple of questions regarding the 7M-GTE engine...

I require the 180km/h speed limiter to be removed somehow, due to the car being used on the track.

I would like to know whether the powerchip piggyback computer is a waste of time and money at $890. They claim a 30kW boost in power over stock, but to do this they also increase boost by 2 psi.

I would also like to know how much the powerchip is actually doing, so how much power could you expect from increasing boost by 2 psi over stock without the chip. One thing in the powerchip's favour is that they said that when the chip is installed they can remove the speed limiter.

I am not looking at large power increases, as it starts to cost $$$ to make the 7M engine reliable it higher boost pressures, so with a stock engine with stock head gasket torqued to 72lb/ft (as mine is) what sort of boost pressure is acceptable without overly compromising the reliabilty of the engine?

These probably have been covered at some stage in the forums, but I can't find all these answers. Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Alan
