AW11 gearbox problem

Hey anyone out there who can help me
I have just bought myself a 1987 AW11 MR2
When I was driving home on the freeway.
5th gear keeps on popping out after a while.
But if I kept my hand on the gearstick to keep it in place,
it would be alright.
Anyone had that problem before?
Also, does anyone know if the AE111 6speed gearbox will fit into the AW11 MR2?
Has anyone done it yet?
Cheers
Jim

Now that you have a 2, it's worthwhile joining up to these forums.
The 6 speed has been done, but I don't have a link for you at the moment. Check the mr2oc forums and also google
Cheers,
Dave

usually all you need to do is tighten the nut at the end of the shifter cable at the shifter end.
It sometimes comes loose and dosent allow that bit of extra extension

the syncro for 5th is a weak one on the a11's na box. i had mine fixed after i bought the feral in 95 up in Darwin when it started popping out, and it only lasted 3 years before it started popping out of 5th again.
it started doing it again after i went from the NT back to WA before i drove from WA over here to Qld.
i just put a okkie strap from up under the dash and slipped it onto the gear stick to hold it there when i was cruising the hi-way.
