advice: ecu and general predicament Sat, 18 June 2005 04:23 Go to previous message
now i am fully aware that this may make me seem completely incompetent with cars, namely because i am. but after spending about 4 grand on two wasted 2t/3t hybrids (one dropped a valve and destroyed everything, the other the forged pistons were .5cm too big, which i found out too late, so i aborted the mission) i finally decided to just bolt a 3tgte into the ta22.
so i have bought the 3tgte and i have bought an aftermarket computer for it, a microtech ltx 8 (i think it is) and i planned to bolt it in after i get it roadworthy.
after wasting all my savings on failed projects, and after wasting more money on the turbo motor, i really dont wanna waste anymore. so here is my problem, the specimen of my ta22 is quite disgusting, HEAPS of rust, HEAPS of bog, it leaks and so forth (the interior is nice Razz) but i dont have the money or patience to restore it, or to buy a new shell. so the dillemma is, i dont want to pour another heap of money into getting the computer hooked up to the motor and my car (i can put the motor in myself no trouble). i dont want to hafta pay to do the computer and put it in a car that i may just hafta take the motor out of and pay to have the computer hooked up in another car. i want the 3t in my ta22, i really do, i just dont wanna waste heaps of money, again, but then again, i dont wanna drive round with a stock 2t either....
questions: 1) general advice. 2) how hard is an aftermarket computer to hook up toa 3tgte in a ta22? is that do-able in the garage? (wiring diagram is online) 3) if so, can u program it in the 'garage'? (obviously not as good as a dyno or anything, but enough to get me by? 5) if the answer is 'no and no', how much would i be round-about look at paying a pro to hook it up and tune it?

apology if this post is frustrating for any tech heads, i find myself frustrating as well. hope u all enjoyed my automotive young and the restless...
