sucking in water through air filter

I would like to mount my air filter between my bumper and radiator support on my sprinter. Now this was all good but I have a friend who has a pod in the position of his original air box on his ae-82 and he has a problem of it sucking in a heap of water whenever he goes though some puddles. This makes me wonder what it will be like with my filter mounted up the front. Do you guys think I will have my car die on me when I am traveling on the road behind a vehicle in heavy rain? Heres some pics I have of my splash gaurd and dummy fit of my filter:
