My girls parents just bought her her first car, a 99 Toyota Celica SX-R.
On the test drive it felt pretty underpowered, and I just went over to the redbook site to take a look and it says that the 2.2 litre 5S-FE only produces 100kw?
No wonder it felt so sluggish.
And further reading tells me that it does the 0-100 dash in 9.7 seconds..
Although the car isnt a turbo, why is it making such small amounts of power? Does anyone know if this model have variable valve timing?
The Honda Prelude we where also looking at is 147kw and does 0-100 in about 7. It also has a 2.2 litre engine. Big difference..
So I guess my question is, is there any 5S-FE owners here that have modified their car with an exhaust etc and noticed much of a performance difference? Is it possible that the car has been detuned for Australian conditions or suffocated by an exhaust system?
Other than the lack of power the rest of the car is really tidy, and we'll be taking delivery of it tomorrow.
