CCFL's meant for PC - DC or AC...?

I have some CCFL tubes here that are meant for a PC, now they have a wiring harness and inverter with them....
What do I need to run them in the car... as they didnt come with instructions, and Im not sure how they hook into the PC , and am wondering if the inverter converts the power to DC or AC from either one?
So if they get used in the car will I need the inverter or not..?
Am I correct in thinking that I can wire them up by earthing the Neg- wires and the pos+ to well pos+ but with a switch in between to turn on/off...
just need to know if the inverter is needed here or not...
