MA70 vs GZ20 Brake Calipers Tue, 16 August 2005 05:15 Go to next message
I was told today that the brake pads for an MA70 and GZ20 in the front are identical, does this mean that when you perform the 300mm upgrade you are only really upgrading the rotors and you dont need to change the calipers?

the reason I am asking is I have a set of rotors without calipers sitting at home, is it worth getting them machined up and fitting them in the hope of having some sort of upgrade? as larger rotor surface area means better heat dispersion Smile

Cheers

Matt

even better!

can someone with one of those EPC Part Number things please tell me if the brake calipers off an MA70/JZA70 have the same part number as the GZ20 calipers

and if the brake pads are the same (this is just to establish whether the person who told me is talking shit or not)

You'll probably find even if the caliper is the same, the position of the caliper wont be right.

nath could you care to elaborate on that one dude?

im not quite following you...

you do know the MA70 brake conversion is a bolt on conversion...i.e. hubs dont need to be changed etc

Sorry, was in the middle of something.

Think of it like this, the R32 Skyline and R33 Skyline calipers are essentially the same. The R32 suits a 280mm disc, and the R33 a 296mm disc. They both take the same pads.

Because the outside of the R33 disc is 16mm further out, the "legs" where the caliper bolts to the strut are 8mm longer to accomodate the bigger diameter. I'd assume the case to be the same for the Soarer and Supra.

The Supra caliper, while taking the same pad may have different mounting brackets.

NOTE: Although I could be wrong and the actual brackets on the strut are where the difference is, by all means, prove me wrong Razz

You do need to swap the calipers when swapping over to the bigger ma70 rotors.

I know that Rear's are identical, not sure about fronts.
I stole my mates MA rears and put them on my GZ. Straight fit.
Having both cars sitting in the yard is useful.
Pads are identicle, same as MX73 Cressida.

Cailpers are the same. Brake pads are the same. The difference is is the brackets that the calipers slide on. Obvously the bigger rotors have bigger brackets to clear them. Smile
