Please don't stroke it!! It removes all revving characteristics of the engine, and basically you have a 22R with a flowing head. I know for sure that I prefer driving my 18RG RA23 to my Dad's 22R 'lux.

If u wanna larger capacity RG, you can bore it out to 2.2L (92mm I think) with no ill effects. The problem with this, however, is you need new, probably custom pistons ($$$). If you stroke it, it will be 2.4L, will have boatloads of low end torque, but it won't be revvy like an RG.

PS i dunno what your appplication is, and if it's in a hilux, the stroked option would be significantly better.

Keep us posted on your progress!

actually for fathers corona wagon so require the torque yet also desire it to rev Smile
am i correct in assumign the reason it wont rev is due to the stroke beign significantly different to the bore and that this coudl be corrected by boring the engine as well as usingt he crank to stroke effectivelly creating something thats 2.6l + with twin cam in a 4 cylinder ?edit should also ask if the reving capabilites are due to the 22r crank beign significantly heavier ?

Longer stroke means higher piston speeds. Shorter rods means higher side-loading on the pistons. Both are bad news for revs.

Solution: 18R-G with SC14 blower. Revs nicely AND has boatloads of torque. Smile

yep, you def want torque, but a stroked RG will rev roughly the same as a 22r. Norbie's suggestion holds some serious meat, however! (such plans lead me to beleive it's an omen that my 18RG has a double row crank pulley Cool )

There different spec twin cam heads.

There is many different casting numbers

Castings numbers in order from best to worst, in my opinion

88270
88253
88250
these are the best 3 to use.

There are many more earlier versions. If u want to use stock cams use the cams from an 88210 or 88230.

All of them ca be used on the 18r block.
