Are we sure that the pump is the problem as I have aslo changed to 1JZ power in a MX83 and the steering at low speed is shocking compared to the 7m powersteering, I only changed the pump with the motor change and left the original rack in place.Have never really followed up the problem but have heard alot of comments about it.still have the jzx81 rack, maybe I need to put this into the cardigan carrier.

hmmm. I somehow don't think that the pump(s) are the problem here.
Did you bleed the system out properly when you installed the new pump?
I have also heard that sometimes they won't bleed properly unless you restrict one of the lines.
Mine was as noisy as a bastard until I bled it out (I didn't drive the car more than 6 blocks before bleeding it).

cressida_1jz wrote on Sun, 28 August 2005 20:57 | The pump acually works great in low revs. Its just making a slight vibration and a noise when turning the wheel in low revs.
The old one didnt work until 2,500 revs and was making a noise since the pump got rebuilt. And didnt work at all before the rebuild.Il try and bleed it by restricting the return line at the resivoir.
Would u think the pump mite be starving for fluid?
Or the rack mite be rooted?

There may still be some air in the system.
Jack the front of the car up so that the wheels are just off the ground. Keep turning the car from lock to lock at least a dozen times, make sure that the fluid is full and then take the car for a drive and see if that helps.

Is the speed-sensitive steering hooked up?
My 1JZ Cressida has very heavy steering too, with a reconditioned 1JZ pump, and a JZX81 rack.

having never played with a power steering car, what is involved in doing a power steering fluid change? and getting it back to factory specs and levels (assume novice for power steering racks here).
do they also make some sort of rattling/grinding sound in genral as well.
i fear the power steering on the soarer (jzz30) might be heading down the same path as yours cressida_1jz
