only 1 wire goes to the ECU (i think). the others are the signal earth (maybe ECU earth), and then power and diferent earth for the heater

So what are the 4 wire one's and all the wire's do

1) SIGNAL Earth needs to be clean w/r ECU
2) ECU Wire
3) switched power from IGN? i used fuel pump power.. takes up to 5A when cold, 1A when hot
4) heater earth, just needs to be away from ECU earth and capable of 5 amps.

heater wiring needs to be capable of 5 amps. and make sure it is switched

ah k, seems like a bit of effort to get all that wired, what is the benifit over a single wire sensor?

sensor heats up in about 30 seconds or so, doesn't cool down during idle, is always up to temperature.... stays cleaner perhaps?

ok i still dont understand what benifit there is for have a 3-4 wire sensore over a single wire sensor????

(or is the only benifit that the sensor gets warm alot faster?)

The sensor has to be at a particular temperature to work properly, the heated one stays at this temperature, the single wire one relies on exhaust temp, so it's temp, and thus accuracy varies.

so the difference between the 3-4 wire units is on the 3 it uses the 1 earth comapared to the 2 earths???\

Jason

also is it a bad idea to use a second hand one of these from the wrecker's?

why do u need the o2 sensor connected anyway

it will just be innacurate most probably

and u cant use it for tuning

most cheap air fuel ratio meters a fukt anyway they either show very righ or very lean

i would never use anyhting like that cause they are innacurate
and a big wank

SIGNAL EARTH
HEATER EARTH

the 3 and 4 wires have a HEATER

the heater ALWAYS has an earth, since it runs 5 amps.

using second hand one is always a bad idea. new ones can be had for $50-60 from ebay.

and it is good to have an O2 sensor for adjusting cruise mixtures.. as long as the ecu is decent enough to actually use one Razz

sorry Wink

3 wire has the SIGNAL EARTH going thru the body of the sensor, then thru the exhaust, then block, then earth strap then body, then ECU earth...

4 wire has SIGNAL EARTH going to ECU earth

the latter is better Very Happy

The cleaner your ECU earth is to the ECU the better, hence you being told 4 wires better than 3. You are running signal from the sensor to the ECU anyway. Why so hard to run an extra wire with it and have a direct sensor earth to the ECU? The Wolf unit must have an earth somewhere...

Get the four wire sensor.

mount it as close to the motor where it can read all the pipes, exhaust manifold, extractors or turbo dump pipe.
It needs to get as hot as possible to be most acurate.

As for the guys that added its not worth doing, correct me if im wrong, but the later model wolf runs closed loop for crusing mode, isnt it worth using for that.
Im guessing that was the original question as it started with "I am getting a wolf 3d v3 computer and was wondering"?

the the closer to the engine the hotter it will get the more accurate it will be.
