3sgte coolant pipe arrangement Tue, 13 September 2005 06:25 Go to previous message
Howdy all, this is in regards to my 3sgte rwd conversion.

Basically all the external coolant lines need to be remade/altered etc.

Originally it appears there are 3 coolant lines going back into the water pump, with the water direction flowing into the pump. I assume some of these are required to go back to the pump to heat up the thermostat?

1 comes out of the inlet side of the block, goes through the oil cooler, then into the pump. Lets call this coolant-1.

1 comes out of the water outlet at the back of the head, goes straight to the water pump. coolant-2.

Another goes from water outlet back of the head, through the heater, and returns to the water pump. coolant-3.

Now would my idea here work.........

coolant-1 will no longer go via the oil cooler, as i'm using an external air cooled cooler. instead, i'll use this as the hot water into the heater. once through the heater it will go back to the pump.

coolant-2 will remain the same, out the back of the head and straight into the pump, assuming my assumption above is correct about this being required to heat up the thermostat. If that assumption is wrong, maybe coolant-2 isn't needed.

coolant-3 no longer required as i'm using coolant-1 for this. So that would mean blocking up the pipe running into the pump.

Reason for using coolant-1 and not coolant-3 for the heater is the pipe is already coming out of the block.. and any extra pipes coming out the back of the head is a custom fabrication job due to the rwd space restraints.

Cheers
joel
