Smt_007's Camry - New Toyfest Pics
|

 |
I have not shown pics on here for a while, its a 1992 Camry Csi Limited, i bought some new low profile tyres, from 205/50R17 to 205/40R17, which has dropped the car lower, but there is more of a gap between the guard now, so i might lower it more.
If it wasnt for toymods, i wouldnt be so into all Toyotas and modifying them, thanks to [Camryman] if it wasnt for you i wouldnt have known about toymods, i came across toymods when searching for info on camrys in google, been a club member for 2 years and loving it .
CAR MODS
- Lowered Monroe Gt Gas Shocks
- King Springs 1.5Inch lower
- Changed Nolathane Bushes
- US Imported Strutbar
- Heavy Duty PBR Clutch
- K&N Air Filter and Custom Intake
- 17" Sparco Racing NS-2 Rep
- 20% TINT
CAR AUDIO SYSTEM
- Pioneer Deck DEXP1R
- JL Audio Subwoofer
- Custom Ported 12Inch Box
- Pioneer 6 Inch Splits
- Alpine V12 Amp
- Soundstream Reference Amp
SPEEDOMETER READING = 380,041 K's
..and now the pics i took today;

Cheers, Stephen.

No way , Go hard - yeah it goes alright, its a manual and i have driven other sv21 camrys and they go so slow like you put a pillow on the intake, i dont know why my one is quicker and revs out smoother. Today i had a look under the car and realised if i lower it anymore, it would be a speed hump plow. Im happy now no more, Guards rubbing, tyres rubbing, top of tyre rubbing and dodgy speedo, Old Pacific Highway here i come .

hey, i got a sv21 as well, and it goes harder than other sv21 i have driven, also i have got a dodgy speedo as well, i think it is a Camry thing, i have been told that the speedo is electronic, so it could be something to do with the ECU.
anyways sweet car and "GO THE MIGHTY CAMRY!"

hey Toyspeedy - speedo was only dodgy because, i had a 50 profile on the tyres, meaning it was very thick and touched the guards on cornering.

Hey guys, just curious Toyspeedy, whats the story with your speedo. My ladies camry is messed up aswell. doesnt read right after about 75 klicks n hour. if i drive behind her and she thinks she's doing 80, its usually 76-74ish, and it gets worse the faster she thinks she's going. anyonegot any answers, iw as thinking maybe some spring device in the speedo or something, tension line - i dunno how a speedo works.
cheers, oh and freakin gorgeous camry. enough to make me want to do one. If you started it again, would you still use the same camry?
cheers

Yeah it could be worth getting a respray if you know someone where you can get mates rates hehe, otherwise expect to pay around 2.5k+ for a respray, how bad is your paint really send some pics?, it cant be that bad unless it has bad sunspots and the paint turned to chalk . A good detail and cut and polish can do wonders .

Smt_007 that Camry gets nicer and nicer every time i see it posted on here. Keep up the good work dude!
As for the performance of other SV21's. I think it might come down too how there looked after. Mine seems too be quicker then most standard SV21 with a manual (just like mine) weird hey? and mines just standard as. Mine now has 228,000km on the clock and still going strong!! It has a good service history. I've done over 54,000km scince i've had it.
Most the people i know have changed there mines about camrys seen what mine can do (performance and ecconomy wise). I would recommend a manual sv21 camry too anyone!

hey guys i just found this forum and i am CAMRY mad, and it is contageous ill tell you why in a little while.
.........
When i 1st drove it i was very surprised, drove really well and it had gutts. now days she has a K&N extreame Flow pod filter, heavy duty clutch, and a 2 inch cat back exhaust. the exhuast was risky as i had no idea what it would sound like, but im happy i done it, it sounds really beasty for a old 4cyc.
As for power she is great, rapes lancers and most other 4cyc cars, even goes very well against my mates done up TR-X (with many more mods than this), i have even given stock VL's a good run, never won but happy with the results.
|
This is what i was taking about.
Some ppl just say they're great eonomyically concidering the fun u can have with them.
But other ppl reckon they beat CABs without trying.....
The above story being an example.

Hey mate,
Good to hear we have more people in the camry mod brigade , i really dont know why they have such a bad name, with a few suspension mods, they handle like celicas and with extractors they go like the st162 celicas. Look forward to seeing your car in members rides soon.
As for mods, Here are Smt's CAMRY MODS 101 ,
AIR FILTERS:- Pods can make the car respond worse because the computer will only allow so much air in, i had a cut up airbox before with a panel filter, and it sounded good but didnt do anything for performance, so i bought another stock box and it responds better, what i will say though is to get a k&n panel filter which goes in your stock airbox and can be cleaned with special cleaning solution for it.
EXHAUST:- I have a full 2" exhaust system, with lukey performance extractors, they were put in only a few weeks ago, and im amazed how well it goes. The difference is the car revs out a lot cleaner, and where it use to slow down at 4000rpm with the stock exhaust, now it revs out to redline with little force, just like when i drive celicas.
SUSPENSION:- I am using king springs 1.5 inches lower and monroe gt gas shocks, i would recommend getting kyb shocks instead, they cost more but are more duarable. Also i have a strut bar imported from america that was a noticable difference though it would only be worth while after new springs and better shocks, the strut bar made the car steer a lot more precise and as soon as i had that put in, it handled like the st162 and st184 celicas i have driven, they have the factory strut tower braces. Another important thing to change is the bushes in the front specially if your car has done a lot of ks and the bushes look worn, as soon as i changed the front bushes the car felt a lot stiffer. When we went up to Bathurst for the toyota nationals we went on Mt panorama race track in bathurst, and the car handled excelent, at the time i had some used pirelli pzero rubber and the car handled like on rails, i needed some bucket seats and a better seat belt brcause the car was sticking to the road like on rails but i was being thrown around lol.
WHEELS:- I have 17x7.5 inch wheels with 205/40r17, if you want to get 17s you need to have a lower profile rubber like 40, i had 50 profile before and it took the speedo out by about 7ks/hr. Also a lower profile is better to stop the guards from rubbing which i had the problem with, when i had the 50 profile rubber. I actually like driving my car, with toymods we go on many cruises through twisty hill climbs and decents and you cant have the car extremely low because it just tyre rubs the guards at the front, i got sick of that and thought i needed smaller wheels but all it was was lower profile rubber. If you go with 16" tyres you can get your springs 2" lower instead of the 1.5 inch i have, i still have problems on some speed humps scraping with people in the car and sometimes without. The lower profile rubber also lowered the car slightly and thats when i started to get scraping.
MECHANICAL:- I will just talk briefly about oil, the oil i use is 25w50, i have heard people say to use high synthetic oil but, many have screwed there engine up because of it. Petrol i dont care what anyone says, but using premium for me gets me further and the car revs out cleanly, i find the best bang for buck petrol is vortex gold it doesnt have the highest rating but with 95 octane its still good, and its cheaper than the hi octane fuels. What ever you do DONT use Shell optimax it has fouled my spark plus in the past and i can really feel it slugish. The ultimate test i did was with my motorbike, motorbikes can feel the difference between good and bad petrol a lot more than cars can, as soon as you rev it up 0-15000 rpm you know, i put in all the fuels there are from every petrol station, and when i put in optimax it felt like crap, wery rough idle and revs, a day later i put in BP premium and as soon as i turned the key it was a different bike. As i said before the best bang for buck petrol is, vortex gold and the other good ones i use is bp ultimate premium and mobil synergy 8000.
Here are some pics of my car on bathurst, when i think of more info to add i will .

ALSO i have a few pics here of my car:
