4AGZE with 271degree 8.1mm lift cams, standard computer. Anybody done this??

Hey guys,
I know the issue issue of 4AGZE camshafts has been covered earlier is previous threads but I was wondering if anyone has run this particular cam profile with a MAP 4AGZE previously with a standard computer?? I will also be running a 14psi pulley kit, front mount intercooler etc....
Any help would be much appreciated

well ive seen trd 272 degree cams work with a stock aw11 gze computer but im not sure of their lift

The TRD 272s will be either 7.5mm or 10mm. The 10mm will most definately need the underbucket shims.

with std ecus and an air flow meter the idle gets erratic if the cam lift is high
and i think even with a map sensored gze or some std ecus and very hi lift cams you tend to loose vacuum so that means the ecu has a different load rating or measure point that the original idle one due to very little vacuum cause by hi lift
this causes erratic idle and u might have to run at 1500 or so rpm

The high idle thing isnt going to be a huge problem, I'm more concerned with problems occuring higher in the rev range. I just want to justify the expense of fitting cams with a stock computer and whether it is worth the hp gain.
Otherwise I will scrap the Idea for now. I do plan on using an aftermarket computer down the track, but I would like to use the standard comp for now so I can save a couple of grand and focus on other aspects of the car.
What about SAFC's??
Anybody ever fitted one to a GZE with good results??

I know on the aw11 4agze with the stock computer and 272 deg trd cams with a cusco pulley made 10kw atw more so definatley a difference

How did the engine run though?
Do you know or can you find out the lift on the said TRD cams??
Would be nice to know this too.

sorry dont remember the lift but i believe he said it wasnt a streetable as he would have liked from memory looking at the dynograph it lost about 8-10kw in the bottom end and gained it in the upper part of the rev range where the 4agze tends to drop off

Hi Guys
Now that its cooled down abit I decided to have another drive with the
272 cams in and with a bit more ignition advance, about 11-12ATDC.
The cams really can be felt in a BIG way after 5000rpm, it screams to
the rev limiter (7200rpm) like nothing else Ive ever driven, torque from
about 3500-5000rpm is about the same, under 3500rpm there has been a bit
lost.
My impression is that the 272s in the SC would make a great track cam,
but for the road, I really miss the off idle torque. Like I said in my
first post, I think the E51 tranny is a bit too widely spaced to run
this cam, it really needs the broad spread of torque that the standard
cams give.
Seeing that this is going to be my road car, Im thinking of whether its
worth it to keep using the cams. I was thinking that using the larger
Blitz pulley may get more torque back below 3000rpm. Or possibly I need
to run my adjustable fuel pressure regulator to richen up the bottom
end.
All in all, I really prefer the low down torque than the top end scream,
after all its not the most tuneful exhaust note Ive ever heard. I now
feel that the stock cams with a bit of head porting and higher boost may
be the answer.
Im going to get a dyno run as soon as I can, just so I can see if more
fuel is needed. If its running lean that may explain the lack of torque
below 3000rpm. Then again the last time I had it dynoed I was getting
about 10.5:1 Air/fuel mixture, so there should be plenty of fuel for the
new cams

Thanks 4AGTE, very handy information.
I guess its a bit of a compromise, running the larger cams with this arrangement.
I'm also coming from a 86kw Bigport 4AGE, so im kinda used to the lack of torque down low.
I'm positive the gze using these cams will still have a buttload more torque over the rev range than my current engine.
Thanks heaps for your comments so far, I'm still interested any anybody elses experiences
