im doing a bit of research into this as i have the parts for it and a ke70 converted to jdm te71 spec.
engines are two '82 te71 gex2 2tgeu's, one '83 te71 2tgeu and '83? ta63 carina 3tgteu
i was wandering if anything went ahead following these posts?
one concern i have is that the oil pump shafts are definately different! where the 2tgeu dizzy comes out the block and is driven by a dummy cam and the shafts continue down to the pump. 3tgteu however has the dizzy hole blocked off but still has a bush below it to hold the oil pump shafts in place which are driven by the dummy cam also. the 3tgte dizzy comes out the
side of the head and driven off the intake cam.
my idea is to use the 3tgte block and utilising the 2tgeu head, intake and dizzy arrangement, with aftermarket exhaust manifold and garrett turbo and 3tgteu efi gear, -injectors, ecu and knock control but with std te71 2tgeu igniter/coil and spark wiring. (tricked a little for boost) (ecu is fuel only)?
what i have yet to find out is whether it will all bolt uptogether without mods?? how to set up the oil pump? are the oil pumps the same capacity? what have other people done? im hoping i can use the 2tgeu oil pump arrangement in the 3tgte block as the engine size is the same (different stroke tho) which should theoretically use the same size pump. only concern maybe the extra heat generated by the turbo may require more oil flow??? anyways if anyone can contribute to my investigations id be greatly appreciative.
also from those posts linked above, ive fitted 3tgteu injectors into the '82 te71 2tgeu gex2 which did run them fine. tho the engine ran hell rich with sooty exhaust and lumpy idle and stutters a bit when revved. i measured the injector resistance and all being around 2.2-2.4ohms (2tgeu and 3tgteu).
