Builing a Gen 1 3S-GE Mon, 17 March 2003 10:51 Go to previous message
Hi

Ive got a gen 1 3S-GE sitting in the shed and I was thinking of rebuilding it and dropping it in a ST162.

What would be the best way to get more power out of one of these things while keeping it reasonably reliable?

What I was thinking:
Aftermarket cams (272deg?)
hi compression pistions (10:1-11:1?)
Head work (Bigger valves?)
ST165 430cc injectors if neccisary?
Unichip or Haltec/Motec/Autronic depending on budget
2.0-2.5" exhaust + headers

Anything I havent thought of?

Any work required to the valve train to make one of these rev harder?

Also is this going to be worth doing compared to dropping in a newer version of the 3S-GE? My main concern with an imported motor is getting parts for later motors (Gen 3 and later) if I manage to blow it up.

TIA
Luke
