ok... the 18R-G in stock used 9.7:1 compression pistons, whereas the 18R-GU used 8.7:1 and the 18R-GEU used 8.3:1.
The 18R-G head used smaller valves and small ports, and they both got bigger for the 18R-GU, and again for the 18R-GEU.
here is some info on the heads:

11111-88270
> 88253 88270s would be the heads of choice since these need very little work from the factory these willl make lots of power with little porting
they will make a lot more power with a lot of porting
the castings are a lot thicker around the ports so there is a lot of room
the 88250s can be made good but the ex studs should be changed up to 10mm ones for best sealing
just be glad you dont have any of those 11111-88230 or 88210 heads they are
good paper weights

I have the 11111-88253 head on this motor. And im pretty sure that it has the 8.7:1 compression pistons. Bit nevertheless it has the big ports and double valve springs which is what you want. Basically its the best head from the 18R-G motors.
All the blocks are identical, and are wiiide open for what you want to achieve. A little boring and honing and some oversized pistons reap some good rewards, but the best thing you can do i whack in the 9.7:1 pistons, use the 88253 or 88270 head and port the sucker out. Damn fine! As you can see these two heads have the greatest power potential of them all.
shipping the motor to canberra... would be less than $100
