a mate has fitted twin rb20 turbos with good results torque is amazing and power not too bad at all . I think if you where going twin the bigger vg30 would be the way to go .especially as your running aftermarket ecu. Having said that for the amount of work involved why not just do the garret roller job as already mentioned . i think this is an excellent turbo choice for a 1j however just a few small considerations. when garret rate a turbo its usually based on a 2 litre engine so to get 500 h.p even on a high flowing engine like a 1j you will probably look at 20 psi+ to get it however it can be done im currently fitting the 720 h.p gt3540 but im not expecting more than 450 at the wheels if your running a toyota auto then dont expect it to handle 500 h.p . However if your running 1j manual box allow 20% power loss so 400 should be possible . BUT this is in a perfect world .Not trying to dampen your project at all i think its the only way to go .but dont be upset if you only make 350 at the wheels with a manual what diff are you going to use as well as gearbox the thing with a garret roller turbo is lag is not an issue . i have spoken to a soarer owner with the 550 h.p turbo fitted and boost response is about 500 rpm worse than factory .whack in a 3000 rpm stall and you get factory response and 380 h,p at the wheels at 18 psi [Report message to a moderator]
