oo oo i know this one...... you can bore an 18r to a 2.2 safely meaning you can use the 20r pistons then you can stroke it using the 22r crankshaft but you have to machine the crank in 3 places to fit to the 18r block.. it is alot of money involved but it is well worth it in the end.. it is a huge power gain.
that will bring it out to 2.4 ltr's from the 22r crank.. i am pretty sure you can use the 18r con rods as they take the same con rod bearings as the 22r but the 22r's use different crank and main bearings thats why you have to machine the crank to suit. they have slightly bigger diameter main and crank bearings.
