A tailshaft loop is a safety device that bolts the the underneath of the car & prevents the tailshaft from dropping to the ground in the event of it snapping.
By welding together a thick steel loop with a bracket either side, it bolts to the floor pan neat the front of the tailshaft, & the tailshaft goes through the loop, without touching it. Unless the tailshaft actually breaks, in which case it is caught in the loop and does minimal damage, instead of diging into the ground & pole vaulting the car ass first into the air, if it just so happened at high speed.
