1UZ small issues

Got the 1UZ going in the ute the other day, but a few small issues:
The fuel return line seems to have nothing coming out of it, and it's running like crap. Is there some kind of 'hot start' solonoid on the pipe somewhere? Buggered if I can see it... But seems to be unable to consistantly get rid of air, heat pressure from the fuel rail, making it sound worse than the 202 that was in there before it! Actually, I lie - that's impossible.
The oil pressure seems to be enormous - screwed a 0-100psi gauge in the oil line, and with a few revs it goes off the dial - Is the gauge crook or do these things run enormous pressure?
