The brake booster has zero effect on braking effectiveness; it's only there to make life easier for your right leg. "Upgrading" the booster will make the pedal lighter, but your brakes will perform exactly the same as they always have.
Personally I can't stand a light pedal; I prefer something with a bit of feedback. This becomes important when you're doing stuff like threshold braking!
