Check that the power lead is not short to earth or the +ve lead has a high resistance to the posive batt terminal. Disconnect the speaker wires and measure the resistance of the speaker, a short voice coil in a sub will blow the fuse every time. Also check that the sub wirng is ok. I you wire two 4 ohm subs in parallel you end up with a 2 ohm impedance. I your amp cannot handle a two ohm load this can cause problems. Apollo: it sounds as if you had a internal electrical problem with the device that you wired up causing excessive current draw, by fitting a smaller guage wire you have limited the current to the device. The only problem with this is that over time the copper will blacken and the insulation decay due to heat from current draw which is higher than that of which the wire is designed for.
