I would like about $120 for them all.
You don't need new shocks at all, and your old ones will continue to operate no worries, as the extra stiffness of the springs makes up for the softer stock shocks, so you don't have to if you can't afford it. Springs are cheap, shocks are not...btw if anyone knows where to get cheap Konis let me know.
Things about loweredness.
a) You can go around corners really fast
b) You can't go over big bumps fast
c) some bumps you can't go over at all without scraping (like nasty driveways)
d) but the car looks very very sweet
d) if you decide to raise it, you MAY have to replace your shocks. small chance, but possible, depends how you drive. Also your strut housings, particualrly in the front take more of a beating, just physics... force absorbed over a lessor distance, you can get reinforcers for cheap I think.. anybody???
I changed my shocks myself, took me half a day with some crummy screw-type spring compressors + a bottle of brake fluid + a wheel alignment. DO NOT forget to get a wheel alignment $55 for 4 wheels from most places.
I have no idea how much a mechanic would charge. Depends where you live, even in Sydney, what part. For a mechanic with proper hoists and compressors etc they could do it in 2-3 hours easy.
so there is my essay on shocks.... hope it helps
