Wed, 07 May 2003 12:50 Stitt, to be honest I actually haven't started yet. I have some finishing touches on the Corona and then full steam ahead on the Crown. Rod, Struan, Steve Shipway and Secoh have all got me a taddle worried about it....I hear the 1UZ rests on the chassis rails/top wishbone with the 50 series. I'm really hoping this isn't the case with the 40 series - initial measurements suggest this won't be the case. I have seen a 4V in an old MS45 which suggests it should work. If push comes to shove, I will lift the body off the chassis by an extra inch to give me some extra clearance (the beauty of a full chassis!). It looks very much like it will need a rack and pinion conversion too. Did anyone notice all the Iraqis driving Crowns in the Gulf War? Edit: Not sure what might be involved with fitting a 1/2JZGTE to the Crown. The rear turbo might be an issue (when I fitted the 2JZGE, the rear manifold fouled on the steering box, which is why I'd be a little woried about the rear turbo), so the cure would be a big single or a rack and pinion conversion. Both require extra funds unfortunately, although I think the R&P steering would be the cheaper option. Id imagine you'd get someone to make a Xmember from one chassis rail to the other, attached via the bolt holes for the steering box and idler arm, and then hang the rack off the new Xmember. Another option altogether might be to use a Sigma steering box and bolt it to the outside of the chassis rail. I think the R&P would provide the best result. Of course, there's the other crap....engine mounts, gearbox crossmember, wiring, tailshaft, fuel system, blah, blah, blah...but Norbie would have some of the low down there.
