Belive it or not... BOVs dont come standard in some cars.
FJ20ET's, RB20DET's, RB30ET's, 15ET's, 12A T, 13b T etc etc didnt run BOVs in the early days, these cars lasting to today are proof that u dont need a BOV to increase turbo life.
Its the same with turbo timers. You dont need them, their for lazy people. Its actually proven better to cruise slowly 1-2 mintutes before your destination, rather than to let your car sit there and idle away for 5 minutes.

My brothers Rx3 sat there idleing away for 5 mins everytime he took it for a drive, the engine/oil temp/water temp all ROSE!
Which is why most of our mates now just drive sedately, let some nice cool air to cool the engine down then pull up and turn the car off.

One theory was that BOVs basically there to prevent flutter and to quieten down a motor vehicle. Cars these days are designed to be quiet. I mean most imports and car tuners these days in the aftermarket scene esp in japan dont use BOVs anymore. I know that their engines and turbos are rebuilt more frequently, but if you choose to keep one on then by all means try!

im just saying that theres no proof that running BOV-less is damaging in the long run, when the main culprit of failing turbos is poor filtration, upping boost close to a turbos efficiency range, and poor maintenence (oil changes).

Anyways IMHO, externally vented BOVs are ghey Smile
