i thought there are a few versions of the 18rg
18 R-C 97hp
18 RG 140hp (these engines are actually quite rare)
18 RG-U read about 125 and 130 versions
18 RG-EU 120hp? cant remember off the top of my head.
you sure he is a mate? $600 seems a normal price to me if nothing else is done. our neighbour was quoted $900 for a 5k recondition to race specs if thats any comparison in price.
im sure if your 18 R-C has port/polish cam inlet manifold/carby and extractors/exhaust then it will probably go as well as the 18gru but driving arround town/in traffic it sure wont feel the same. the 18r g series will definatly have more useable power and it will be a less peaky piece of shit. it is also a better base for future upgrades.
but having said that if you already have a fresh 18R-C why not keep it and drive it arround while building up a monster 18rg 1ggte etc.
my 2 cents.
