im assuming you are talking about an AW11 MR-2 from your comments.
I have a few ideas that might help you here mate. My advice is as follows if you are scared of taking the No.3 route due to cost, or even No.2 route (you would end up with a spare GZE then..). I might mention the fact that your GZE would be Air Flow Meter type, whereas later model (AE101) GZE's are MAP sensored, and i think that might create a few problems in matching up running gear, if you were to do a loom swap etc...
So here's what you do:
1/ Ok. Buy the bottom end of a late AE92 100kW 4A-GE, these are the same block as the late model GZE with the oil squirters, extra ribbing etc.... just make sure it is in good condition. Or better yet, buy a shagged 100kW 4a-ge that someone is selling due to a conversion. This will give you your "series 3 block"
2/ Buy yourself the late model higer compression GZE forged pistons, complete with ceramic coating and all. Cost was $400 last time someone told me. Im not 100% about rods being the same, but i would assume that they are (between early gze and late gze)
3/ Continue your rebuild from there in the usual way, having just upgraded to the later model (series 3) GZE bottom end. Maybe do some porting/polishing, a nicer camshaft etc etc. Or maybe go the turbo route!
Good luck mate!
