You can strip the internals to save weight if you really wanted too. The extra weight will really do nothing to your car handeling or performance wise.

Sure. Just that you don't actually need it to act as a pulley wheel at all, unless of course you one day intend to run A/C.
I am running PS and NO A/C pump on my 2JZGE (I'd imagine the pulley locations are similar on a 1J). I needed to make a spacer that was essentially a 25mm long piece of steel pipe to fit where the A/C pump would have sat. I ended up using a 6PK1860 (original 6PK1940 I think) belt but I'd recommend the 1840.
It's just one less thing to clutter up your engine bay. Up to you, of course.
