biased99,
Thanks for the backup.

fastj,
like I wrote, if you know how to solder two wires together, and can follow a wiring diagram (not very difficult) you can do it yourself. I have the wiring (which I made myself due to only having crap japanese diagrams that were unreadable) for Crown ECUs and can probably answer all of your questions. You will have no problems getting all the ancillary equipment that sideshow mentioned running (eg neutral start switch, reverse lights, alternator, AC, temp, oil). Toyotas are pretty much all the same so you can get this wiring from other diagrams.
Usually I recommend that people remove the temp sensors for their instruments from the original engine and plum them into the 1uzfe somehow (mechanics is always easier than electronics) so that your instruments will still read OK. You don't have this problem because you are starting from the ground up and I guess will use aftermarket guages. I have a Ford Fairlane with a digital dash so this wasn't really a valid (or prefered) option for me.
When I first did the car I had it running on the stock Crown ECUs but I moved to aftermarket so that I could accommodate changes later on and so I could use my tiptronic gear changer controller.
