Flat out the 18R-GU isnt a legal engine swap into that car - the motor is older than the car therefore it's not allowed.
Definitely look at the 1G-GTE/1G-GZE/1G-GE conversion. There are PLENTY of articles written on this very conversion at:

Have a read of those and see what you think. It's proven to be the best bang for buck conversion with ANY RWD celica.
