The rule is the engine can't be older than the car. That's the case in NSW and Qld anyway; I'm not sure about Vic, but I doubt it's any different.
As mentioned above the 18R-GEU was manufactured until the mid-80's and was fitted to a nearly identical car to yours (RA63), so you should be OK if you use one of them. 18R-GU's are older, but I'm not sure how much older.
