it also depends on waht condition the engine is in. if it's a little bit sick, you generally want something a little thicker that wont seep through dying seals.
I'd probably say a good quality mineral oil would be the go. 15w50 or 20w50.
synthetic would be nice, but realistically it wouldn't be worth all the extra expense on an older engine which works just as well on mineral
