tuz76 Occasional Poster Location: Sydney Registered: August 2002	Major bad news. :(.........Please please advise!! :(( Wed, 28 May 2003 13:29 Hi Guys, I need some help big time. 1989 Ae92 SX 16 Valve I think either a) My head Gasket is blown or worse b) Cracked Cylinder block. My car was fine until this morning I woke out of bed to start the car. I drove about 2 minutes and all of a suden the idle started getting heaps rough. Anyway after lots of diagnosis, it turns out the car was running on 2 cylinders with 3 and 4 not operating at all. Worse...following a compression test, the mechanic (who I trust alot) says that there is no compression coming out of 3 and 4 cylinder. So the prognosis is bad. It is almost definately from within the motor and it could be anything from a Blown head gasket to a cracked cylinder block between 3 and 4. Now....... My car has never overheated. It has never had a single problem. Admitedly I drove it hard for a few seconds last night to high rpms but for the rest of the journey home it was fine (rest of the journey was about 10 minutes). So what are your opinions? Has anyone had or heard of a similar problem and what should I do? It will be damn expensive to fix. Car is insured for 7Grand and has an immaculate body (fully resprayed original white). What are my options? What about the cost of fixing compared to putting in say a 20Valve (all done by a mechanic as I have no time).
