From what I've learnt there are at least over 15 different types of clutch plates. I got alot of info from a guy in Artarmon who used to work in the clutch industry and the rest came from Western Clutches who are very cheap and have top notch clutches.

They do clutches for 8second rotors so they know their shit. Jimmy who also out there has 600HP GSR Lancer and he is currently machining up his own twin plate clutch out of two button clutches. I've made things up myself but would never have considered making my "own" twin plate clutch! Shocked

Below is the list of clutch from easiest to drive to most horsepower/torque handling. There's probably some i've left out too some guys will pick up on, and hopefully tell us.

1.Full round face clutch with floating sprung centre.
Where the disk of clutch material is attached to the metal
plate with special rivets so there is movement helping reduce
shudder and grabbing combined with the sprung centre. Pretty
much a factory clutch.

2. Same as above but they drill the rivets out, remove the
clutch material and re-attach it with glue it to the central
disk. This is a grippier clutch with slightly less driver
friendliness, but still great.

3. Full round face clutch without sprung centre but with
floating clutch material.

4. Full round face clutch without sprung centre and without
floating clutch material.

5. New type from Exedy(Probably my fav) has a full round disk
with multiple pads(like 12), is sprung centre and also has
two metal disks back to back. So you get almost max gripping
with the pads but not full harshness, you get the sprung
centre to ease bite and the two disks back to back to ease
bite again. This is what i would have gone for for a big hp
application but i don't want any more power now.

6. Button/paddle clutch with sprung centre

7. Button/paddle clutch without sprung centre
Quite alot of bite and harsh on uni's and diff's.
Everyone's seen Yogi reversing from O to 30km/h with the
release of the clutch.

8. Twin plate clutch

9. Triple plate cltuch

You can go either way or compromise.

Either,
Go up in heavier pressure plates to hold a full faced clutch and keep drivability and driveline longevity, but with a heavier peddle as the only downside. Your uni's, diff, etc will love u.
*That's my angle on it*

Or
Keep same pressure plate and go a paddle clutch that will grab but be harsh on your uni's,diff etc but easy on your left leg.

That's without going to a mutli-thousand dollar multiplate clutch like in Pete's Supra. They're like starting price of $2k!

Pressure plates are usually cheaper that high performance clutch plates so its also cheaper to the the route I am.

TurboRA28, i'd give Western Clutches a call and have a chat, they're very help full. The pressure plate could very well be suited to your 3SGTE flywheel too but I don't know dimensions etc of the 3SGTE one.
