There is a trade off. To get white light, the bulbs have to have coloured filters on them, which reduces output.
Just like passive tone controls, if that makes sense to anyone.
I have bulbs like Nark's, and i think they are brighter than stock... but i bet the same bulbs (they are much higher watttage than stock) without the filters would be heaps brighter!Interestingly, i thought that they sucked when i first got them but after a few days they seemed to 'bed in'. Very weird. The idea is that a white light is more like natural daylight and is less fatiguing, but there is a lot of wank and marketing bullshit with 'bright white' bulbs, you have to be aware of what is going on. You won't get a HID lighting system just by changeing globes!
After a point in getting higher in the spectrum, ultrawhite or blue or whatever actually gets detrimental.Another trade off is that white light isn't as good in the wet, I guess the reasoning is the same that foglights are very obviously yellow.
