i know exactly what's happening
well, one of two thing sthat i had happen to me numerous times...
first thing is loose mounts or bad grounds.
second thing is that one of the wires from the stator coil to the diode pack had come loose from fatigue of the solder. if ya pull it apart and redo all the solder joints it will probably be ok.
basically if the light is coming on faintly it is usually a sign that one of the 3 coils in the alt isn't working.... it happens commonly with high rpm motors because of the aforementioned solder fatigue failures....
have you checked the voltage with a digital multi? i would get around 11.5-12V and the battery would stay vaguely charged....

ps, i have pics of when i last resoldered my alt if that would help ya???
When I start my car up I notice that the charge light is glowing very faintly, sometimes when I accelerate I notice the brightness of the charge light fluctuates (normally brightens on deceleration). Also, when I turn my headlights on it brightens as well although this also fluctuates in intensity. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?
