It seems everyones having there input into this arguement/discussion.. so i mite just say a few words myself. Im not sure if they will make sense to all the techies on here, but il give it a shot. I have had some of my best driving experiences in rotaries, turbo'd and atmospheric. I have also had some awesome experiences in piston engined cars, and from my point of view building fast cars comes down to: what exact vehicle the intended motor is going in and it's weight, what this vehicle was built to handle and what its limitations are, and to what extent you are modifying the new motor/drivetrain/mechanicals. In my opinion a rotary-powered vehicle has an instant advantage in cornering due to the lightweight of the motor over the front wheels. A mates rx2 can sit so firmly in a corner at 220kph that it amazes me and makes me jealous for that level of handling, and this thing has standard ride height, firm springs and struts, and kmac sway bars. This car is powered by a 1989 series4 non-turbo STANDARD rebuilt 13B motor, with a STANDARD Niki 12A carby. It has extractors, and cold air induction and thats about it as far as breathing mods go. This car is RTA approved, and we have dropped twin-turbo late-model soarers with ease to 300m and beyond when the six finally gets on boost and catches up... In my opinion non-turbo rotors are the best, and they hardly need turbos unless you have a 1700KG car to haul around!! most rotary-powered cars were built light for this reason.. except the newer shapes(due to safety, among other reasons). If i had the money i would have put a 13Bturbo into my ra28!!!! Simply because it is a light engine(compared to an 18RG), and produces good power for its cost, with plenty of potential for easy ground mods and i have mates who have modded 13B's/13Bt's. This would have just been a nightmare to get legal, but would have been one of the better-handling celicas out there just cause it doesnt have a chunky iron block. But then again, if i had that money i could have done anything such as 1j swap... BUT i bet i wouldnt be able to catch my mate in his rx2 AROUND CORNERS cos his car handles like its on rails due to the lightweight and even distribution of this weight. Then again........... the only car which i know can out-hanlde this rx2 is an AE86 20-valve!! it doesnt have the poke of the rotor but can be thrown around corners like a go-kart, while bouncing off the 9000 redline!!! hehehe. Anyway, enough ranting, lets just keep the discussions positive, and keep the shit-talking for real-life. My car will never touch a modded turbo'd supra, rotor or whatever.. Oh and i think the reason rotary owners put out the image that they are defensive is because they are used to copping a shitload of abuse from all piston-lovers, regardless of origin, and they want to prove themselves.. my 2c [Report message to a moderator]
