U = japanese emissions control equipment.
C = californian emissions control equipment
R = regular fuel/reduced compression
E = EFI
G = twincam wide valve angled head
Hope this helps.
I have found a pic of mine that shows an original RA35 GT-V with the 18R-GU fitted. However my picture doesn't show where the wire you refer to is connected  It just shows where the hoses go and that the wire runs down below the thermostat housing *somewhere*
